Best Places To Visit In Alleppey

Let the experts guide you to the best of the city of backwaters

The abundance of places to visit in Alleppey will leave a tourist in awe of the beautiful town. Nicknamed as the “Venice of the East,” Alleppey is famed across the world for its backwaters and canals that criss-cross each other. Families, friends, honeymooners and solo travelers flock to Alleppey, or Alappuzha as it is also known, for a chance to relax and rejuvenate themselves. It is one of the most beautiful and popular destinations of the state, mainly because of the backwaters, although there are several other Alleppey points of interest.

Sightseeing in Alleppey is not just limited to the backwaters. There are also sunny beaches here such as the Marari Beach. Located nearly 11 km away from the city center in Mararikulam, the beach offers a sense of seclusion. It is a great picnic spot, and when you move away from the heart of the beach area, you can also come across small coves and lagoons to soothe your soul.

Other Alleppey tourist places include several temples and churches such as Mannarasala Temple, the Ambalappuzha Sri Krishna Temple, Arthunkal Church, Krishnapuram Palace and Alappuzha CSI Church, which is the oldest Anglican Church in Kerala. The Krishnapuram Palace is a must visit for all history buffs, who want to learn more about the culture of Alleppey and Kerala in general. Arthunkal Church, also known as the Saint Sebastian Forane Church, is a 16th-century place of worship. The annual ten days festival held here referred to as Arthunkal Perunnal is one of the most attended in the state.

If you are pressed for time and are looking for places to visit in Alleppey in 1 day, then make sure to enjoy a day cruise on the backwaters instead of spending a night here. Watch the villages glide by as you lie back and enjoy the lush greenery all around you.

Sumit's 4 days trip to Alleppey

Our journey was very nice. Everything was very well executed except for the last day of the trip there was a miscommunication from your side regarding which place to visit that led us to be detained for some time and as a result in the last moment our houseboat was changed.Everything should be crystal clear from beforehand so that the people don't get unnecessary Harrassment for the inconvenience caused. Please work upon that Munnar sight seeing was very great.
