Places to see in Gangtok have a unique ambiance – the hustle and bustle of city life and a quiet serenity.M.G. Marghouses the Lal Bazaar, which is a very popular Gangtok tourist spot. Merchandise of all sorts, food stalls, shopping malls, supermarkets, restaurants, trinket and souvenir shops, and much more can be found on this one sprawling street. A mere four hours from New Jalpaiguri Railway Station, M.G. Marg is colorful, busy, and smack dab in midst of town.

In Gangtok, local sightseeing is itself a big flurry of places. Buddhist Monasteries built in Tibetan styles are amazing places to visit in Gangtok. Although most monasteries do not allow photography within their sacred walls, the exteriors are themselves quite exquisite. Some prime examples are Banjhakri Waterfalls, Himalayan Zoological Park, and Kanchenjunga Biosphere Reserve. But a major Gangtok tourist spot is Gangtok’s ropeway. It starts from Deorali Bazaar, stops once at Nam Nam, and then moves on to Tashiling. Nam Nam is not very far from M.G. Marg, and both ends at Deorali and Tashiling have delicious restaurants. But the best part is the unrestricted view of Gangtok from high up. Even the Kanchenjunga Peak can be seen in the distance from the ropeway.

Some of the best places to visit in Gangtok can be accessed from the ropeway route itself. The starting point is Deorali Bazaar in Gangtok. From here, the trip to Nam Nam is really worth it, as, besides the obvious scenic beauty, Nam Nam is a central location. Five minutes on foot lead to M.G. Marg and Lal Bazaar for those interested in shopping and sightseeing in Gangtok. After the shopping is done, the trip back to Nam Nam on foot leads to the taxi stand from where people can go to Pelling.

Places to visit near Gangtok are quite exciting as well. Pelling, Nathu La Pass, ChaarDham, Namchi, and so on. The Sai Mandir in Namchi is worth visiting. Also worth a trip is the Buddha Park Ravangla, which houses an enormous Buddha statue. Lacsen,Lacsunz, YumthangValley, Gurudongmar are also great places to visit near Gangtok. The glacial source of Teesta River at Tso-Lsamu is also great.
