The history of Bali spans from the Paleolithic period to the Modern Age. During this entire period, the history of Bali is marked by people, culture and their influences. People from other parts of Asia migrated to Bali during the different ages. As a result, their culture and traditions also came along with them. When the Europeans arrived in Bali during the 16th century, they brought their Western culture along with them. Today, Bali stands as a symbol of these mixed cultures which has been preserved by the people. Earlier during the 2000 BCE, Bali was inhabited by the people who migrated from Oceania and Southeast Asia and they were called as Austronesian people. After the 4th and 5th century, Hinduism became very popular in Bali when the Hindu traders entered the island and also nine Hindu sects existed in ancient Bali. Along with Hinduism, religions like Sivaism and Buddhism were also practiced in Bali. History of Bali also includes the arrival of Dutch settlers in Bali in the 16th century who influenced Balinese culture and architecture. During World War II, Bali was conquered by Japan which ended the Dutch rule in Bali. In the year 1949, Netherlands recognized the independence of Indonesia and Bali was included in the Republic of the United States of Indonesia.

Travel to Bali

Read about the best & quickest routes to save time & money, as suggested by our travelers

By Air

Travelling by air is the best way to reach Bali from India. As many of the airlines have a layover at Kuala Lumpur, one can choose to book a flight from major cities of India up to Ngurah Rai International Airport. Garuda Indonesia runs a nonstop flight from Mumbai to Bali whereas there are only connecting flights available to travel from Delhi to Bali by air. One can also take a flight from India to Singapore and then board a flight to Bali. The airport is well connected to all the cities within the country as well as outside it. One can take a bus or taxi from the airport to reach their destination.

By Road

Bali, being an island, does not have any road connectivity with other parts of the world. Therefore, it is impossible to reach Bali by road directly. However, one can reach Singapore by road, and then take a ferry to reach Jakarta. Jakarta to Bali distance is about 1200 km; and it takes around 23 hours journey by bus from Jakarta to Bali. Thus, the route will be India- Myanmar- Thailand- Malaysia- Indonesia. Going to Bali by road is not recommended as it can take weeks to reach the destination. Also, one must have a visa and other permits for all the countries that are on the way, which makes the road trip very expensive.

I recently planned a group trip to Bali with Craft Your Stories, comprising seven members including my family and a friend's family. From the outset, Craft Your Stories impressed us with their impeccable organization and attention to detail. Rajat from CYS was instrumental in ensuring a seamless exp
erience from the planning phase to the trip itself. His constant availability and responsiveness, even months before the trip and during our travels, were commendable. The itinerary options provided catered perfectly to our diverse group, ensuring that both adults and children had an enjoyable experience. Speaking of which, the kids had an absolute blast! The activities and sightseeing options were engaging and age-appropriate, making the trip fun for everyone. Our cab driver, Mang Adi, deserves special mention for his professionalism and helpfulness throughout the trip. His local knowledge and friendly demeanor added a personal touch to our journey. In summary, Craft Your Stories orchestrated a fantastic group trip to Bali for us. Their well-organized itinerary options, responsive service, and attention to detail ensured that our vacation was memorable and hassle-free. Amitsingh's 6 days trip to Bali

We were a group of 9 people travelling to Bali, Indonesia for 5 days. The hospitality we received when we went there was heartwarming. We faced some personal difficulties and throughout the entire process, the team was very helpful, especially the cab drivers. We understand travelling with a big gro
up can be intimidating but from the hotel staff to especially the drivers, they were all very patient, kind. We stayed at Swiss Belhotel Tuban and Pondok Sebatu Villa. The pre-trip coordination also went smoothly without major hiccups. Cons: We did think that the plan could have been made in a way where either we stayed at the second villa a bit longer or we could have stayed at the original hotel because the trip to the villa at night and the long drive to the airport could have been avoided as well as the expenses of staying in the villa. We would have loved to learn about the Balinese culture more which is why we were asking the driver questions but it was a bit difficult to communicate so we could not learn about the culture, the different things that we saw on the road and we wanted to learn about to anyone. Probably a guide would have been quite helpful in this place since as a foreign tourist, you want to learn about the local customs as well, right? Overall it was quite a good trip and we will definitely cherish it for the rest of our lives.
