Table Mountain Aerial Cableway, Cape Town (South Africa)

Table Mountain, Cape Town exists as a very important destination for the tourists. Standing, 1085 m high, the Table Mountain is a flat topped mountain which forms a major landmark that overlooks the Cape Town city. This mesmerising mountain is a part of the Table Mountain national park and is found in the Cape Fold Belt mountain range. It often remains covered in a cloud and hence, many know of it as ‘table cloth’. The destination offers many interesting activities that include using the cableway, hiking etc. Table mountain aerial cableway opened in the year 1929 which offers 1 to 3 different routes for reaching the top. It also offers abseiling and is currently the highest abseil in the world with a height of 112m. The mountain has thousands of species of plants n animals many of which are endemic and has the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens on its right.

History Of Table Mountain

Historically, Antonio de Saldanha was the first European who landed in Table Bay and he climbed this mountain in 1503 and called it Taboa do Cabo. Three blockhouses were ordered to be built on the mountain in 1796. They were the king’s blockhouse, Duke of York or the queen’s blockhouse n the Prince of Wales blockhouse. Out of the three, only the King’s blockhouse remains in good shape and is accessible while the rest of the two have got ruined. Five dams that include the woodhead, Hely-Hutchinson, De Villiers, Alexandria and Victoria reservoirs got opened on the Black Table between the years 1896 and 1907 to meet out the water needs of Cape Town. Table Mountain national Park was proclaimed by the president of that time as the Cape Peninsula National Park on 29 May 1998. It was included in the list of the new Seven Wonders of the World in 2011. They say that you’ve really missed something if you haven’t been to the Table Mountain even after being in Cape Town.

Adventure Activities At Table Mountain

Abseiling- it is an activity where you take the descent from the Table Mountain. A climbing harness will be strapped at your waist, allowing you to take a controlled descent from the top. Get a glimpse of the whole city while you perform this activity. Make sure to perform this under supervision.

S's 5 days trip to Cape Town

The team at TravelLykke have been very professional in their approach right through. They have been very patient and understanding of the requirements and accommodative to all kinds of doubts and queries and options too. Fairly transparent in the dealings and have a good set of on-ground contacts in S Africa who too have been professional and on time without delays and exceptions. A suggestion: there were some legs where we were informed we need to take Uber (to & fro Robben Island & Table Top Mountain). For the kind of spends done by us (Rs 3 Lakhs +) overall, it would have been helpful if these too could have been accommodated in the package. It is the nuisance value of having to book, wait etc. Also more minute detailing of the Full day Cape Peninsula tour could have been share earlier - we got it on landing from the local guide and it was very educative. Why not share this ahead of time? Some travel agencies give a backpack or travel kit (the amount of Rs 3 Lakhs is HUGE) with your branding. In this case it is singularly absent. Wonder why? We stayed in 3 hotels - Emerald Guest house in Johannesburg (Rating Poor to Good only); Kruger Park Adventure Lodge ( Excellent); Holiday Inn Express at Cape Town (Excellent).

Mayankmaki's 9 days trip to Cape Town

The trip was very well organised and all our requirements were met. We had issues due to flight delays and we were late for one tour, our travel planner Mrs Prerna was very helpful and proactive to adjust the tours to accommodate everything. From last minute hotel booking to providing rental car , she was quick to respond and also regular reminders before trips to ensure smooth communication between us and South African operators. Would surely recommend their services The views with clouds sliding in all around the mountains and ocean at the cape point during the cape peninsula tour.

Aniruddha's 9 days trip to Cape Town

We had an amazing trip to South Africa. It is a beautiful country to visit with very hospitable people around. Everything went well without any hiccups. The hotels, cab drivers and other details were well planned by Nikhil from Besten/MK Holidays, special thanks to him. Some elements which can be improved were the visits planned during our stay at Knysna as they were quite some distance away from our hotel. Will definitely recommend Travel Triangle to others for planning their trips.
