Two Oceans Aquarium, Cape Town (South Africa)

Two Oceans Aquarium is a prime attraction on the iconic Victoria and Alfred Waterfront in the city of Cape Town. The Two Oceans Aquarium, Cape Town, gets its name from its very location, where the Atlantic Ocean on the west and Indian Ocean on the east meet each other at the shore. Opened, in November, 1995, the place has some unbelievable underwater experiences for ideal family tours at the Cape Town waterfront.

History of Two Oceans Aquarium

The Two Oceans Aquarium opened its doors to the public on 13th November, 1995. Since then, the aquarium underwent many changes. It has now become an iconic attraction of the city of Cape Town, and a world-class marine education and conservation centre. Established with the love for the underwater and its inhabitants, this popular aquarium is famed for its contribution to conservation endeavors, animal husbandry, and the state-of-the-art educational programmes.

Attractions of Two Oceans Aquarium

The Two Oceans Aquarium is home to thousands of marine animals, belonging to more than 200 varied underwater species and one can catch a glimpse of all by interactive displays. There are 7-8 specific displays at the aquarium, each of which is dedicated to the preservation and demonstration of the most unique marine creatures, not just of South African coast but of the world’s oceans at large. The Atlantic Ocean Galley is all about translucent jelly fishes, the rare seahorse Knysna and giant spider crabs, while the iconic Predator Exhibit is home to one of the sea’s most dangerous creatures. Three ragged-tooth sharks called Lili-May, Dane and Bernie live here, swimming around in 2 million litres of saltwater.

If one holds a PADI Open Water Certificate, they can do Two Oceans Aquarium diving in the I&J Ocean exhibit tank, which has various marine animals scattered around 1.6 million litres, like turtles, rays and a variety of fish. There is a separate Indian Ocean exhibit as well. You will find a host of colourful clownfish or anemone fish in the coral reefs here, which will remind you and your kids about the movie Finding Nemo. One of the Two Oceans Aquarium’s biggest exhibits is the Kelp Forest, which is a large underwater range of foliage which is home to silver-scaled fishes. Also visit the Two Oceans Aquarium new exhibit, River Meander, to see African penguins, oystercatchers, mole snakes, leopard toads, platannas and a river course of freshwater marines.

Either, you are an intrepid researcher, a beached turtle, an underwater lover, or just a curious visitor, this world-renowned aquarium in the city of Cape Town is meant to transport you to another world that you would like to visit again and again.

S's 5 days trip to Cape Town

The team at TravelLykke have been very professional in their approach right through. They have been very patient and understanding of the requirements and accommodative to all kinds of doubts and queries and options too. Fairly transparent in the dealings and have a good set of on-ground contacts in S Africa who too have been professional and on time without delays and exceptions. A suggestion: there were some legs where we were informed we need to take Uber (to & fro Robben Island & Table Top Mountain). For the kind of spends done by us (Rs 3 Lakhs +) overall, it would have been helpful if these too could have been accommodated in the package. It is the nuisance value of having to book, wait etc. Also more minute detailing of the Full day Cape Peninsula tour could have been share earlier - we got it on landing from the local guide and it was very educative. Why not share this ahead of time? Some travel agencies give a backpack or travel kit (the amount of Rs 3 Lakhs is HUGE) with your branding. In this case it is singularly absent. Wonder why? We stayed in 3 hotels - Emerald Guest house in Johannesburg (Rating Poor to Good only); Kruger Park Adventure Lodge ( Excellent); Holiday Inn Express at Cape Town (Excellent).

Mayankmaki's 9 days trip to Cape Town

The trip was very well organised and all our requirements were met. We had issues due to flight delays and we were late for one tour, our travel planner Mrs Prerna was very helpful and proactive to adjust the tours to accommodate everything. From last minute hotel booking to providing rental car , she was quick to respond and also regular reminders before trips to ensure smooth communication between us and South African operators. Would surely recommend their services The views with clouds sliding in all around the mountains and ocean at the cape point during the cape peninsula tour.

Aniruddha's 9 days trip to Cape Town

We had an amazing trip to South Africa. It is a beautiful country to visit with very hospitable people around. Everything went well without any hiccups. The hotels, cab drivers and other details were well planned by Nikhil from Besten/MK Holidays, special thanks to him. Some elements which can be improved were the visits planned during our stay at Knysna as they were quite some distance away from our hotel. Will definitely recommend Travel Triangle to others for planning their trips.
