Kolkata is one of the original 4 metro cities of India, and is a major commercial, tourist and cultural hub in eastern India. The city has been the centre of administration during the British occupation of India and thus had developed infrastructure and connectivity to the whole of India. The city is connected to the whole country and foreign countries through international flights, ports, etc. And the road and rails connect the city to all of India.

By Air: Druk Air and Bhutan airlines both operate direct Kolkata to Paro flights on a regular basis from Kolkata. The connection from Kolkata to Paro is a long-term one with flights on regular intervals and on an almost daily basis. The 535 km distance takes about 1 h 15 m to complete and is a cheap flight with an airfare of around INR 8000. Air travel is the best way to travel as one directly reaches Paro and does not need to go through the borders and the arduous road travel

By Rail: Bhutan does not have a rail connection to India and as such one cannot reach Paro by train from Kolkata. Since there is no Kolkata to Paro train, one has to catch a train for Hasimara which is just 15 km from Bhutan border and check-point. The journey takes about 13-15 hours for completion, from Kolkata to Hasimara, not counting the time taken for onwards travel.

By Road: For the braveheart, it is possible to reach Paro from Kolkata but only after a long and tiring journey of 870 Km. Just reaching the Phuentsholing border will take about 19 h of continuous driving to cover the 710 km distance. Travelling from Kolkata to Paro by road can be a fun experience for those who travel for the sake of travelling and not reaching the destination.

so very friendly and knowledgeable. They shared with us the history of Bhutan, it's rich cultural heritage and religious significance. Our itinerary was 5 nights long which covered Thimphu, Punakha, Paro returning via Phutenshilong. During our visit, the weather was on our side and we visited all major attractions. We particularly liked the Punakha Dzong, Suspension Bridge, Tiger's nest and Paro cultural museum. The hike to Tiger's nest was the highlight of our trip. All our accomodations were comfortable and the rooms had picturesque views. My wife and I were also celebrating our wedding anniversary. The Green Zone destination team surprised us with a cake and decorated our room. This was a very kind gesture and it made our day all the more special. Additionally, during the trip my mother had forgotten her jacket in one of the hotels we were staying and the Green Zone destination team went out of the way to fetch it and deliver it to us enroute. Overall, we had a wonderful time and have cherished memories of our visit to Bhutan. Kudos to the Green Zone destination team for organising our trip and being on top of everything. I strongly recommend them for Bhutan travel requirements.

Every arrangement was excellent except those mentioned below. The guide and driver were excellent. Food was excellent. Entry into Puentsholing and leaving Puentsholing not well coordinated. Delay on both occasions about 1 hour each time. Riverfront Resort , Paro, Rooms given on two different floors.

Central Hotel in Puentsholing gave a twin bedroom instead of a requested double bedroom Hike to Tigers nest. River rafting in Paro.

However the communication for the travel details like cab number and driver contact information were not communicated ahead of time at any stage of the trip. This should be improved. Also for the return into India we had to do it wit

hout any help from the guides. This was easy but we should have been informed ahead of time. The last minute communication caused unnecessary tension which could have been avoided. Rhe giant statue of the sitting Buddha was awesome. Chellala pass was exhilarating. Seeing the Yak and the Taskin was memorable.
