Best Time To Visit Egypt

Plan your trip during best season to experience the best of this stunning destination

The best time to visit Egypt is from September to April when the weather is cool and pleasant.

December and January see the peak season in Egypt due to the Christmas and New Year festivities. It might get very crowded during these months due to a large inflow of tourists, hence it is advisable to book hotels and tickets in advance. Summer season i.e from May to August is not an ideal time to visit Egypt with temperatures rising to as high as 38 degrees Celsius.

There is no monsoon season in Egypt, however, months from March to May receive occasional rains.

March-May (25°C to 35°C):

March marks the end of the peak season and the beginning of excessive heat. There is occasional rain during this time. Temperature is much cooler than what it becomes in the next three months. But do keep an eye out or rather shut, for the famous Khamsin Wind – a minor sandstorm that occurs across Egypt during April-May.

Significance: Get to take part in the festivities of the Sphinx Festival, Sham al Nazeem, and Ramadan.

Tip: Carry light clothes and a lot of sunscreen with a hat and sunglasses.

June - August (40°C to 45°C):

The month of June experiences the start of the scorching heat, but to see what summer means in a desert country, that too in the greatest desert of the world, one must wait till mid-July. The heat is too much, especially in Luxor and Aswan which are two very important tourist destinations. Even the lower rates of hotel and flight tickets are not worth it because of the extreme weather conditions. Although it is not the best time to visit Egypt, you can still enjoy it here on a budget during this time.

Significance: Get to take part in the festivities of Islamic New Year and Eid Al Adha.

Tip: Carry clothes made of cotton and linen. Apply a lot of sunscreens all over the body.

September - November (38°C to 40°C):

Heat in the southern cities still remains near 38°C-40°C, but the cities in Northern Egypt get a little bit cooler than May - June. This is the time when beach activities by the Red Sea and the Mediterranean are very popular.

From scuba diving, snorkeling to swimming with sharks and dolphins, visitors have many options to pursue. Nile River Cruises are also a great way to enjoy the autumn.

Significance: Get to take part in the festivities of Mawlid An-Nabi and Aby Simbel Sun Festival.

Tip: Take more part in beach activities during these months.

December - February (15°C to 20°C):

Have you been wondering about what could be the best time to visit Egypt pyramids. It won’t be that cold, since the whole country has a very arid and dry desert-like climate all through the year, but it does get pretty chilly at night. But temperatures do come down to around 20 degrees during December and January in more or less every part, even Luxor and Aswan.

Partake in the West Bank Marathon event held in late January or early February for an altogether different experience.

Significance: Get to take part in the festivities of the Coptic Christmas and West Bank Marathon.

Tip: Carry clothes as per the weather conditions.

Festivals Celebrated in Egypt

Ramadan: This Egypt festival is the most important festival celebrated by Muslims all over the country. Ramadan is a popular festival wherein the cities are lit up and markets become lively. Fasting is done from sunrise till sunset and later all the festivities are done with friends and family. The festival is celebrated during the holy month of Ramadan which usually falls in the months of May and June. It is also the best time to travel to Egypt with family and friends.

Best Time to Visit Egypt for Sphinx Festival: This is one of the most iconic festivals of Egypt in which people are educated and enriched with the ancient heritage and rich history of Egypt. During the five days festivity, various activities like dance, educational workshops, and music shows take place in which both locals as well as tourists take part with great enthusiasm.

Best Time to Visit Egypt for Coptic Christmas: Coptic Christmas is celebrated with great zest and zeal by the people residing in Cairo and Coptic regions of Egypt. Not only the Christians but people from all religions and races take part in this festival. This festival is celebrated every year on the 7th of January and the preparation starts one week before. People gather with friends and family to enjoy feasting on meat soup, garlic, and rice. It is also seen as the best time to visit Egypt among many visitors.

Best Time to Visit Egypt for Nile Cruise: October to April is the best time to cruise the Nile River. The temperatures are pretty favorable during this time and you won't find many travelers, as well as this, is not the peak tourist season.

Best Time to Visit Egypt for the Red Sea: June to September is the best time to visit Egypt for the Red Sea experience. Various activities like snorkeling, diving, etc can be best enjoyed during these months.

Climate in Egypt

Summer Season in Egypt

Egypt weather is sweltering during the summer. For this reason, the crowd is very thin. The hotels are more affordable and is the best time for budget travelling. Since the majority of Egypt celebrates Ramadan for one whole month typically in summer, some attractions can close earlier.

Monsoon Season in Egypt

Monsoons in Egypt are very erratic. Usually, no place receives much of rainfall. During early spring Cairo and some other northern parts do receive some scattered rainfall. But there can be a drought for a year and then a flash flood the next year. There is no specific monsoon season.

Winter Season in Egypt

Egypt only has summer, too much summer and a little less summer! So the time which should ideally be winter is actually characterised by the milder warmth in the air. However, this ensures that the holiday season sees a lot of crowd in Egypt.

Rohini's 8 days trip to Egypt

So we booked an Egypt package from one of the recommended agents of Travel Triangle - Travel Lykke It was for a week or so in December 2025, just before Christmas What went well: Cairo, Giza and Alexandria - Splendid, seamless, helpful guides Pyramids covered with camel ride and local insights at the museums as well What went okay: 1. Aswan, Abu Simbel and Luxor - Good co-ordination with the local ground teams. They did not keep to timelines, but got there in the end 2. Aswan-Kom Ombo-Edfu(by road) - Our car kinda gave up before we left Aswan, but a replacement was found in 2 hours. The new driver busted his guts to get us into Luxor in time for the evening sound and light show without breaking any road rules. Respect. What went wrong(badly): The overnight train ride from Cairo to Aswan We used train no 86, leaving Giza at 8 PM (planned) , and 9 PM (actual) Very old berths, washrooms not suitable for humans, and unhelpful staff If you read this review this far - my humble take - if you are travelling with children and/or senior citizens, save your time and money. Just fly out Cairo-Aswan the next day. The luggage in Aswan will take time to arrive, but it is better than the train journey

Rohit's 7 days trip to Egypt

This was 4th international trip with Travel Triangle, and the fact that we keep coming back to them is a testimonial in itself. We went to Egypt recently, and the from initial booking to actual execution, everything was very smooth. All vouchers were delivered well in time. The Giza Pyramids and Hot Air Balloon ride were the absolute highlights for us. The Nile cruise too is an unmissable experience. While we have no complaints against any of the guide, our guide in Aswan (Ahmed Abdelwahab) was the absolute best. Along with being a guide, he was like our go to friend for any of our needs in Aswan. I will suggest you should strive to secure his services for all of your customers / guests.

S's 8 days trip to Egypt

I am extremely happy with the services provided by Travel Triangle. This is my second outing with Travel Triangle. Everything has been seamlessly managed and taken care of. One issue I would like to highlight is for Nile cruise the options based on price range should have been given. Hopefully its looked into.

Vamsidhar's 6 days trip to Egypt

Trip was well organized with no difficulties, 100% satisfied. Cruise was extremely good and food was awesome, cruise crew team behavior is so well. Al places are worth watching The guides were poor not explained well, They were in hurry to finish their jobs, Only edifi temple guide is good, Rest all guides are poor rating, Hiring professional guides will add advantage to the trip. Abu simbel car driver and guide is so good with patience. Guides were stopping in the locations which is not included in the iternary and wasted the time, inorder to buy some arts and crafts products which is of no use, and wasted the time. Overall trip was organized well with no tensions, Egypt trip is worth watching places like Aswan, Luxor, Cairo & Hurgadha is optionalon your choice, We missed alexandria as it is not added in the iternary.
