About Hagia Sophia in Thessaloniki

The Hagia Sophia Thessaloniki is a famous tourists’ destination in Thessaloniki, because of it being one of the oldest churches of the city.

Due to its architectural excellence, the building has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Site along with various other buildings and monuments of the city of Thessaloniki.

The Hagia Sophia history dates back to the 8th century, according to various historians. However, there are many pieces of evidence of it being built even before the 6th century. Being such an old building, the Hagia Sophia Thessaloniki holds an important place in the history of Greece, because firstly, it may be even older than the famous church in Istanbul, and secondly, it has seen all the good as well as bad days experienced by Greece.

The Hagia Sophia Thessaloniki is a church, but in around 16th century, it was converted into a mosque. However, later in 1917, it was again reconstructed to be used as a church. The Hagia Sophia history makes it an important site to visit in Greece, and also one of the major tourists’ attractions of the place. There was a fire in the church in 1917 due to which many interiors and decorations were damaged badly. However, with the help of experts, Greece restored a lot of them and rebuilt the dome around the 1980s.

The beauty of Hagia Sophia Thessaloniki lies in its mosaics and other interior decorations, which serve as a museum now. Though the outer walls of the church look plain and ordinary, one must visit the place to have a look at its extravagant interiors which take the tourists to a different Greek era altogether. The walls of the Hagia Sophia Thessaloniki are simple, but the whole modern setting that the place gets due to the nearby gardens and fountains is commendable. One must travel to Thessaloniki Greece to have a look at this beauty of the past, and various others that depict the true essence of the life of ancient Greeks.

The mosaics of Hagia Sophia Thessaloniki are beautiful and portray the whole story of the place in the best way possible. They depict the Ascension of Christ and holds pictures of some of the famous people of that time with their families and children. The dome of Hagia Sophia Thessaloniki is about 32 feet high, which is sure to leave every tourist gazing at the monument due to its beauty.

There are many other attractions near the Hagia Sophia Thessaloniki which one must visit like the Hagia Sophia Square, which is located on the North West side of the main church. Apart from this, there is a Terkenlis and Byzantium pastry shop which one must visit to indulge in some nice delicacies of the place.

Thus, it would be right to say that the Hagia Sophia Thessaloniki and various other monuments and structures like these are a must visit in order to have a peek into the Greece history. One must travel to Thessaloniki Greece to find out more about these places, and explore them to the fullest.

Judy's 7 days trip to Thessaloniki

I have used travel triangle before so my expectations were high for Greece trip. I had requested 4star hotel but got 3star accommodation & the ambience was below average in Athens. Mykonos as good. Santorini hotel could have been better as the tap water was too salty to freshen up Islands & associated trips were great

Nishant's 6 days trip to Thessaloniki

I generally plan my own trips but this time choose TT. I specially liked that we were given driver and car for pickup and drop for every transit and I didn't have to drag my luggage in the public transport.. also they were constantly in touch with us thru WhatsApp and flexible to make changes based on our plan (until the last momemt). If I compare my much would have I saved if I planned everything on my own vs using TT the difference is not that much when compared to the comfort I got.

Everything was great. We didn't have to think about our next move because everything was very well planned. Meteora, for sure! It is one of the best places to visit on earth. A geological and architectural marvel!! Maria and George in Meteora were one of the best guides.

1. Excellent suggestion on the Travel Agent options. 2. Payment terms and modality of installments is user friendly. 3. It is probably the mandate of travel triangle to facilitate the travel schedule chosen by the customer. Perfect. Wish some inputs are mildly/indirectly provided by Travel Triangle in future to the prospective customers on the validity of their travel dates as far as tour season in the destination is concerned. If the travel dates fall in low season period, the shops are 90% closed, the internal transfers/ mode of travel (e.g ferries in Greece for the travel between islands get shut down in the low season period). 4. Hope there exist efforts from Travel Triangle to get the partnered agents in one room and train them of certain policy aspects . I am confident the top mgmt at Travel Triangle is aware about this. There is increased trend in higher middle class for aportioning funds for international travel and more over distinctly pronounced trend ( at least in Mahatrashtra) to avoid travelling thru big tour-arranging companies where the cotravellers don't exactly wear compatible mind-sets. Such travellers need more design inputs while deciding on the travel period for a given location. Hope above feed back would be taken in right perspective . I am sooooooo happy with the Mauritius trip. Ms.Ishita 9f My Trav Plan took care of everything very smooooooothly. Her behavoiur is way too good. She is kind, generous & very understanding. She made the changes dat I required very patiently. I got one of my best trip. The hotel chosen for me, Veranda,Grand baie was simply a wow..All d staffs were so friendly nd caring. They took extra care for the whole 5 days. The cab chosen nd the driver was Mr.Suben. He is indeed a well mannered, helpful nd a very kind man. He went out of his way to help me in many places. Special thanks to him. Being a solo traveller, all the above mentioned facts matter to me very much. So thank you so much and looking forward for another trip.

Ramkicrn's 7 days trip to Thessaloniki

Took a week long family trip to Greece planned by Ishita and executed by Ishan from MTP vacations. Overall great experience. Pros: Ishita from sales side was quite flexible in tailoring our trip to Greece and accommodated most of my inputs towards locations, length of stay, hotels etc., Quote given was quite competitive compared to peers. Ishan from operations side stayed on top of our itinerary throughout our stay providing pickup co-ordinates, driver and stay details. Got us upgraded to better travel modes as needed to ensure our schedules won't go astray, made us positively surprised and appreciated. Was available on phone, chat through the stay to ensure our travel experience is not compromised. Cons/Improvement areas: Minor discomforts were to wait for end of the day to know exact details of next day's plans.. Though nothing went off-track majorly, couple of schedule changes were done (of course for a better experience), but weren't communicated till late. While we were able to take it in our stride and play along, might not be the case for others . Both the above are more for ppl who don't like surprises in schedules, especially bit older travelers. Sales team were able to accommodate my asks on locations, however would be great if they are forthcoming with such family friendly options for uninitiated travelers. But Overall lovely family vacation enabled by MTP team!! Keep up the good work...
