How To Reach Alleppey

Read about the best & quickest routes to save time & money, as suggested by our travelers

For those still in a tizzy about how to reach Alleppey, it would be good to remember that although there are several ways to get to the city of Alleppey, but there is only one way to reach the backwaters of Alleppey, and that is by road. You can take a flight to the nearest airport or a train to the nearest railway station, but either way you would have to hire a cab from there to reach Alleppey. It is the 10th largest city of Kerala and offers some of the best natural beauty that the state is famous for, be it the crisscrossing canals that intersect the small fishing villages or the houseboats that glide past silently with its load of eager tourists.

There is no airport in Alleppey, and the nearest one is the Cochin International Airport, which is 75 km away from Alleppey. The airport is well connected to major cities across India as well as the world, offering flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Dubai, Singapore, Bangkok and many more destinations. From right outside the airport, you can hire taxis or get on a bus to reach the backwaters.

If you are planning to reach Alleppey by train, then the Alleppey Railway Station is your best option. The railway station is located in the heart of the city and offers connections to various cities across the country such as Trivandrum, Chennai, Bangalore, New Delhi, and Cochin. Buses, taxis, and auto rickshaws are readily available outside the railway station to take you to the backwaters.

Make sure to use the prepaid booth for taxis if you want to enjoy a hassle free journey. Some hotels also offer pickup and drop services, so talk to your tour operator or hotel management first and then plan accordingly.<readmore> The major trains that connect the city to various places across the country include Sabari Express, Nizamuddin Express, Tirunelveli HAPA Express, and Kerala Sampark Kranti Express.

The roads to Alleppey, especially from Kochi and Kumarakom, are well maintained and well connected to other cities of the state. If you have hired a taxi or are planning to drive to Alleppey by yourself, it is a good idea. The road is mostly well-built and offers scenic views. You can stop on the way to Alleppey for snacks and meals, and for some much-needed break from driving.

Sumit's 4 days trip to Alleppey

Our journey was very nice. Everything was very well executed except for the last day of the trip there was a miscommunication from your side regarding which place to visit that led us to be detained for some time and as a result in the last moment our houseboat was changed.Everything should be crystal clear from beforehand so that the people don't get unnecessary Harrassment for the inconvenience caused. Please work upon that Munnar sight seeing was very great.
