About Kasar Devi Temple in Almora
A small hamlet near Almora, Kasar Devi is located in the state of Uttarakhand. Kasar Devi Temple is found in this quaint village. Dedicated to the goddess Kasar Devi, the temple was named after her. The temple was constructed during the 2nd century CE and remains an intriguing tourist attraction till date. The sanctum sanctorum of the goddess is found inside a cave amidst the huge rocks. Thousands of believers come here every year to seek blessings from the Devi. Kasar Devi is also famous for being a meditation site to Swami Vivekananda when he visited the place in 1890. Kasar Devi has also been associated with many westerners such as Sunyata Baba Alfred Sorensen and Lama Anagarika Govinda who came here seeking peace and solitude. There is a place just out of the village known as Crank's Ridge, which used to be a popular destination during the Hippie movement of the 1960s and 1970s. It still remains an attraction to a number of foreign and Indian trekkers and tourists.
