Jaisalmer Fort (Rajasthan)

Jaisalmer Fort is one of the world’s largest forts.

It is an architectural marvel, that was built in the year 1156 AD by the Rajput king Rao Jaisal, after whom the city of Jaisalmer is named. Interestingly, about 3000 people are living in the periphery of the fort.  Jaisalmer Fort is also known as Sonar Quila. It lies about 50 meters above the city. Jaisalmer Fort is the second oldest fort in Rajasthan and is declared a world heritage site by UNESCO.

History of Jaisalmer Fort

Jaisalmer Fort stands erect even after so many years and witnessing so many battles. The fort was built by Rawal Jaisal who was a Rajput ruler in Jaisalmer. The fort is named after him only. Due to the spectacular beauty and grandeur of the fort, many rulers wanted to capture it including Ala-ud-din Khilji. Later on, Humayun, a Mughal Emperor got hold of the fort and the fort remained under the rule of Mughals. Later, it got transferred to Maharwal Mulraj from the Mughals. The Jaisalmer Fort is also called the Golden Fort or the Sonar Quila.

Architecture of Jaisalmer Fort

The Jaisalmer Fort stands still on a hill and it is about 1500 ft. tall and is 750 ft. wide. The design and architecture style of Jaisalmer Fort is an amalgamation of Rajput and Islamic style. There are several havelis inside the fort which have intricate carvings on them and are made with sandstone. Many of these havelis have now been converted into museums. There is also Laxminath Temple and the Raj Mahal inside the fort. Another highlight of this fort is the five-storied tower known as the Tazia Tower which was made using the Bengali style roofs and pattern.

Attractions of Jaisalmer Fort

The fort of Jaisalmer is an attraction in itself. The grandeur of the fort speaks for itself and overshadows the whole city with its magnificent glory and beauty. There are several striking attractions or features of the Jaisalmer Fort like the four magnificent gateways which are located at the entrance of the citadel, the Jain temples which are made out of yellow sandstone, merchant havelis which are made of intricate carvings, the drainage system and the Raj Mahal are other marvelous attractions inside the fort.

Jaisalmer Fort is about 460 meters long and 230 meters wide. One of the most famous structures of Jaisalmer Fort is the Maharwal Palace whose main attraction is the marble throne. Another attraction of the Jaisalmer Fort, known as Tazia tower, is a five-storied structure which is located near the Maharwal Palace.

Jaisalmer Fort showcases a perfect blend of the Rajput and Islamic architecture and is rightly reflected in Jawahar Palace, another attraction of the fort. It was this place where the royal family used to live. Jawahar Palace has a unique architectural design and one simply cannot afford to miss it on the Jaisalmer Fort tour

Hemant's 4 days trip to Jaisalmer

We had a wonderful experience booking our *Udaipur–Chittorgarh–Pushkar–Jaipur (Rajasthan Mewar)* trip through Aapka TripWala via Travel Triangle. Chirag from the tour company was extremely helpful from the very beginning. He carefully understood our requirements, as we were travelling with our 3-year-old, and tailored the itinerary perfectly for us. He also arranged our flight tickets and hotel bookings with ease. The hotels chosen for us were exceptional in comfort, location, and service, making our stay truly memorable. Our driver, *Mr. Nandu Singh*, made the journey stress-free and pleasant from the moment he picked us up at the airport until the final drop-off. He kept us informed about possible scams at tourist spots, was always patient and courteous (even when delays happened because of our little one), and greeted us each day with a warm smile. We really appreciated that he never pushed us toward any particular shop or market. Travelling with him was an absolute delight, and his professionalism enhanced our overall trip experience. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a well-organized, trustworthy, and family-friendly travel experiene.

Binoy's 4 days trip to Jaisalmer

We are really grateful to Preeti Sharma from Back 2 Holidays for planning such a wonderful trip of Udaipur and Mount Abu. Initially we were sceptical about all the commitments given by Preeti, but to our complete surprise, everything what she has promised was honoured. Right from the hotel room, view, the cab, the tour plan was as committed. We are super delighted as it was my bday tour and wanted this to be special and would like to thank Preeti Sharma , the cab driver Kamlesh , who ensure we had the best experience of the lake city and Mt. Abu. Breathing Taking Hotel View, Dinner at Kamma Ghani , City palace and Mt. Abu Morning.

Devyani's 7 days trip to Jaisalmer

We had a memorable trip to Rajasthan booked through Travel Triangle, though our experience was somewhat mixed. The cab driver assigned to us was truly dedicated and went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. Every restaurant he recommended was excellent, and the sightseeing throughout the journey was absolutely fabulous. That said, I would advise exercising caution when booking 4-star accommodations through the agent. It's important to clarify that we were referring to official hotel ratings, not guest reviews. Unfortunately, the agent’s interpretation did not match ours. Three out of the five hotels had ongoing renovation work, which significantly affected our comfort. Although the agent did try to make changes to minimize the inconvenience, the replacement hotels were not of genuine 4-star quality either. The most disappointing experience was the camping stay at Juma Resort in Jaisalmer. The property was infested with crickets, making it uninhabitable. Four families, including ours, ended up leaving the resort and paying out of pocket for alternative accommodation. Unfortunately, this was not even communicated to the travel agent at the time. On a positive note, our request for a rollaway bed for our daughter was fulfilled as expected, which we appreciated. In summary, while the itinerary and driver exceeded our expectations, the hotel arrangements — particularly the Jaisalmer experience — left considerable room for improvement.
