The ancient city of Alwar in the northern state of Rajasthan is a treat for any architectural enthusiasts or history lover. There is a list of places to visit in Alwar that present you with such astonishing architectural beauty that it will surely leave you awestruck. The origin of some of them dates back to the era of 1500 BC. Most of the tourist places in Alwar have a touch of royalty since most of them are the ruins of palaces of past rulers. Presented below is a list of places that you can visit on your Alwar sightseeing tour.

Bala Quila: The history of Bala Quila dates back to 1550 AD, making it the oldest fort and the most sought after destination in Alwar. However, the name of this structure suggests otherwise as the meaning of its name is a young fort. It depicts the magnificent glory of Alwar over the years. Standing tall and strong, the fort covers a distance of 5 km and is one of the best places to visit in Alwar.

City Palace: The marvel of City Palace is situated below the Bala Quila. It was established in the year 1873. Its architecture depicts Rajput and Mughal influence. At present times, part of it is used as government offices and the other part as a museum. A visit to the museum is highly recommended since it has a plethora of important artifacts, making it one of the best Alwar attractions. It has fifteen main towers. Anyone with a thirst for learning Rajasthan history should definitely spend some time in the City Palace.

Siliserh Palace & Lake: This lake and palace share the same name and both of them are equally enchanting. They are situated by the side of each other. The construction of Siliserh was completed in 1845. The palace was constructed by Maharaja Vinay Singh in devotion to his wife. A visit to the palace along with the lake offer an amazing experience and is one of the best places to visit near Alwar.

Vijay Mandir Palace: Vijay Mandir Palace is another rare find of Alwar. This ancient palace is a nice place for sightseeing, however, one can’t step inside since it is not open for public. The palace is designed as the shape of a ship and is among some places to visit around Alwar. It is usually apt for a brief visit. The construction of this palace was completed in the year 1918.

Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary: This wildlife sanctuary is situated 37.4 km away from Alwar and the approximate time taken to complete the journey is 58 minutes. Sprawled over an area of 866 km², this sanctuary is also a tiger reserve. It is an amazing choice to visit nearby Alwar since it has a plethora of unique flora and fauna. However, that is not all, inside the premises of this sanctuary, there is this fort named Kankwari that is often flocked with visitors.

We had a memorable trip to Rajasthan booked through Travel Triangle, though our experience was somewhat mixed. The cab driver assigned to us was truly dedicated and went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. Every restaurant he recommended was excellent, and the sightseeing throughout the journey

was absolutely fabulous. That said, I would advise exercising caution when booking 4-star accommodations through the agent. It's important to clarify that we were referring to official hotel ratings, not guest reviews. Unfortunately, the agent’s interpretation did not match ours. Three out of the five hotels had ongoing renovation work, which significantly affected our comfort. Although the agent did try to make changes to minimize the inconvenience, the replacement hotels were not of genuine 4-star quality either. The most disappointing experience was the camping stay at Juma Resort in Jaisalmer. The property was infested with crickets, making it uninhabitable. Four families, including ours, ended up leaving the resort and paying out of pocket for alternative accommodation. Unfortunately, this was not even communicated to the travel agent at the time. On a positive note, our request for a rollaway bed for our daughter was fulfilled as expected, which we appreciated. In summary, while the itinerary and driver exceeded our expectations, the hotel arrangements — particularly the Jaisalmer experience — left considerable room for improvement.
