Dilwara Temple In Mount Abu

Dilwara Temple or Dilwara Jain Temple in Mount Abu is a major attraction for tourists and locals.

It is located a little more than 2.5 kilometers away from the city center. Constructed by Vastapul Tejpal, these temples were built between the 11th and the 13th centuries. They are world famous for the marble used in their construction, and the amazing detailed designing that is done on them.

History of Dilwara Temple

While talking about the history of Dilwara Temple, it is believed that this sacred pilgrimage site for the Jains is dedicated to Lord Rishabha. Built by Chalukya Dynasty in between the 11th and 13th century, it comprises five temples, including Vimal Vasahi, Luna Vasahi, Mahavir Swami, Pithalhar, and Parshvanath. All five of these temples are devoted to five Jain saints, and they have beautiful idols inside them. As the temple is surrounded by hills, and there was no conveyance to transport marble blocks to the hill at that time, it is believed that elephants were used to transfer marbles from Arasuri hills to Mount Abu.

Attractions of Dilwara Temple

Dilwara Temple is located right in the midst of a lush green forest land, and is surrounded by a high wall. Decked with carved pillars, ornamented ceilings, panels, and doorways, the architecture of this religious attraction is meant to marvel at.

Let’s take a look at its five temples that are the main attractions to explore here.

Mahavir Swami Temple: Devoted to Lord Mahavir, this Jain temple was built in 1582. Though, this temple is quite small in comparison to other temples, but the marvelous work done on its walls just leave everyone mesmerized.

Vimal Vasahi Temple: Dedicated to saint Adinath Ji, this is the oldest temple in the complex of Dilwara Temple. Constructed by Vimal Vasahi in 1031 AD, the major highlight of this attraction is the hall of ‘Guda Mandapa’, which is decorated with plenty of images of  Shri Adi Nath.

Khartar Vasahi Temple: The tallest shrine amongst all the temples in the Dilwara complex, it was built by the clan of Mandika in between 1458-1459 AD. Like other temples, this temple also decked with amazingly carved marble pillars.

Peethalhar Temple: Constructed by a minister from the dynasty of Gujarat- Bhim Shah, this temple was named Peethalhar as most of the statues in this temple are made with the use of Pittal, i.e. brass metal. The temple also comprises Nav Chowki and Gudu Mandapa.

Luna Vasahi Temple: Dedicated to the 22nd Jain saint, this temple was built by Vastupal and Tejpal in 1230 AD. The temple houses a black marble idol of Shri Nemi Nathji apart from other 360 idols of jain saints.

Make sure to visit the temple when touring the other attractions of Mount Abu to get a sense of what architectural beauty stands for.

Hemant's 4 days trip to Mount Abu

We had a wonderful experience booking our *Udaipur–Chittorgarh–Pushkar–Jaipur (Rajasthan Mewar)* trip through Aapka TripWala via Travel Triangle. Chirag from the tour company was extremely helpful from the very beginning. He carefully understood our requirements, as we were travelling with our 3-year-old, and tailored the itinerary perfectly for us. He also arranged our flight tickets and hotel bookings with ease. The hotels chosen for us were exceptional in comfort, location, and service, making our stay truly memorable. Our driver, *Mr. Nandu Singh*, made the journey stress-free and pleasant from the moment he picked us up at the airport until the final drop-off. He kept us informed about possible scams at tourist spots, was always patient and courteous (even when delays happened because of our little one), and greeted us each day with a warm smile. We really appreciated that he never pushed us toward any particular shop or market. Travelling with him was an absolute delight, and his professionalism enhanced our overall trip experience. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a well-organized, trustworthy, and family-friendly travel experiene.

Binoy's 4 days trip to Mount Abu

We are really grateful to Preeti Sharma from Back 2 Holidays for planning such a wonderful trip of Udaipur and Mount Abu. Initially we were sceptical about all the commitments given by Preeti, but to our complete surprise, everything what she has promised was honoured. Right from the hotel room, view, the cab, the tour plan was as committed. We are super delighted as it was my bday tour and wanted this to be special and would like to thank Preeti Sharma , the cab driver Kamlesh , who ensure we had the best experience of the lake city and Mt. Abu. Breathing Taking Hotel View, Dinner at Kamma Ghani , City palace and Mt. Abu Morning.

Devyani's 7 days trip to Mount Abu

We had a memorable trip to Rajasthan booked through Travel Triangle, though our experience was somewhat mixed. The cab driver assigned to us was truly dedicated and went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. Every restaurant he recommended was excellent, and the sightseeing throughout the journey was absolutely fabulous. That said, I would advise exercising caution when booking 4-star accommodations through the agent. It's important to clarify that we were referring to official hotel ratings, not guest reviews. Unfortunately, the agent’s interpretation did not match ours. Three out of the five hotels had ongoing renovation work, which significantly affected our comfort. Although the agent did try to make changes to minimize the inconvenience, the replacement hotels were not of genuine 4-star quality either. The most disappointing experience was the camping stay at Juma Resort in Jaisalmer. The property was infested with crickets, making it uninhabitable. Four families, including ours, ended up leaving the resort and paying out of pocket for alternative accommodation. Unfortunately, this was not even communicated to the travel agent at the time. On a positive note, our request for a rollaway bed for our daughter was fulfilled as expected, which we appreciated. In summary, while the itinerary and driver exceeded our expectations, the hotel arrangements — particularly the Jaisalmer experience — left considerable room for improvement.
