History of Gyuto Monastery
Gyuto Monastery was re-established in India after the Chinese invasion in 1959 in Tibet. The monastery was initially founded by the main disciple of first Dalai Lama, Jetsun Kunga Dhondup. Gyuto Monastery in Dharamshala is, for sure, a must visit tourist attraction in Dharamshala. The main of its establishment was the preservation and promotion of the traditional teachings of tantric of the Tibetan masters who learned these teachings from Indian buddhist scholars and other accomplished masters. In 655 A.D. the location of the two statues in Tibet were exchanged due to political chaos. Later, in 1474 A.D., when Kunga Dhondup Pel Sangpo started teaching tantric to his disciples, then Gyuto Monastery came into existence, which later became an exemplary monastic seat when he, along with his disciples, calmed down a river.
